365 Ways To Be Happy
Before I get to this post, I just wanted to share a few things that I’m grateful for.
Over the last week, I’ve had a couple of things happen that have really got me thinking.
First, I was driving the family to the Hot Springs for FHE through the canyon going 65 mph when a deer ran across the road from the left, right in front of my car. I remembered Rick telling me many times before, if that ever happened, I was not to swerve and try to miss the deer or I would inevitably over correct and roll the car. Instead, he told me just hit the deer. When the deer darted right in front of me, I was pre-programmed. I hit my brakes and braced myself for the impact. It hit hard! It was loud! In the moment of silence after the impact, I heard one of my kids whimper in the back of the car, as I tried to pull over and come to a stop. Both the headlights were out and it was very dark. I could not see. I turned on the flashers (which worked..I don’t know how???) so I could see to get over to the side of the road.
Some nice people who happened to be driving behind us witnessed the whole thing and pulled over to see if we needed help. Strangely, the only thing I could think of was the poor deer. I asked if Rick or the other driver if they had a gun, so we could put the deer out of his misery. The driver of the other car said he was pretty sure the deer was dead, because of all the blood and deer parts he passed on the road.
🙁
Oh, and if you’re wondering why I was driving and not Rick, it’s because the driver seat in our Denali is stuck in my position, and can’t be moved, so it’s very uncomfortable for Rick to drive.
Anyway, my SUV is smashed not only in the front, but all along the side and even on the back corner panel. That poor deer, can you imagine?
I am so grateful that we were in our big SUV, and not our little Hundai! I can’t imagine what would have happened, had we been in a smaller car. I am so thankful that none of my family was hurt. If I could be choosy about accidents, I’d pick this one!
Oh, and btw, my 18 year old son was involved in an accident just a few weeks ago in the little Ford Focus. He wasn’t at fault, and again, only the car was hurt.
So grateful.
Second, I was heating some soup in the microwave for my daughter and when I pulled it out, it had a hot pocket that popped right up in my face! I quickly brushed it off, and felt my skin rolling off with it. Ouch.
It stings so bad, and people think I have a cold sore, but that doesn’t bother me.
You know why? Because I’m so grateful that it didn’t land in my eye!
It could have been so much worse!
I got it pretty good and I realize it.
They say that that the most grateful people are the happiest people.
That brings me to today’s post….
(finally)
Each day, for the next 365 days, I will post one way to be happy. These are ideas that are tried and true, in other words, I’ve tried them and they work for me. I will not share anything that I have not done myself, or am not willing to do.
Most of us are going to live through this next year anyway, so why not make it one of your happiest years?
I believe that we are meant to live lives of happiness and abundance. Each one of us. Not just the beautiful, not just the wealthy, not just the young, but each and every one of us!
#1:
Be grateful.
Make a commitment to give thanks today. Consciously look for things to be grateful for. Begin your day with “thank you,” and make your last thought at night one of giving thanks for the day. Be grateful in every circumstance, no matter what is happening around you. I’m so thankful for a burned lip!! 🙂
I have read somewhere that just 30 days of saturating yourself with gratitude will change your life beyond your comprehension.
I have read somewhere that just 30 days of saturating yourself with gratitude will change your life beyond your comprehension.
Let’s put it to the test! Why not?
I will be making this a part of me for the next 30 days. I would like for it to be a habit of mine, how about you?
Follow along with me to feel a little happiness each day!
Here’s to the best year ever!
