HOW TO TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF IF YOU GET COVID… MY EXPERIENCE…
I learned so much during my recent battle with Covid 19, that I thought I would share how to take care of yourself in the event that you get it.
First, let me say that it was not a bad flu for me.
I’ve had bad flu’s before where I wanted to die!
This was nothing like that.
In fact, I just felt like I had a head cold, with the exception of two days where I had achy legs and hips.
I wouldn’t have thought anything of it at all, had I not lost my taste and smell.
When that happened, I was curious and went to get tested.
You WILL be tired!
I’m still finding myself falling asleep …. into a HEAVY sleep, quite often.
And while there are so many things I would rather be doing, I’m giving in to sleep for the time being.
I know that later, I will have more strength.
But when you are sick, sleep is one of the best ways to take care of yourself.
Let’s dive into how to take care of yourself if you get Covid, or how *I* did.

Vitamin C, Vitamin D, and Zinc – Unless you’ve been living under a rock for over a year, you know that we should be beefing up on these.
Tonic Water – A friend of mine on Instagram told me that tonic water has “quinine” in it, which is the active ingredient in Hydroxychloroquine. Now, I don’t know if that’s true, but I had my husband pick me some up at the grocery store and I sipped on it throughout the day on my worst day. The next day I felt so much better.
Aspirin – may reduce the need for mechanical ventilation and ICU admission.
Lots of water or Gatorade – to help minimize achiness and dehydration, especially if you have a fever.
Smell essential oils – I found THIS ARTICLE that recommended using rose, lemon, eucalyptus, and clove oils and to sniff each oil for 10-20 seconds twice a day, for 12 weeks. I thought it was interesting as I got sniffing that I could smell oils like peppermint, but not lavender. It’s such a strange thing to lose your smell! Again… not sure if this works, but I believe in the power of essential oils.
Mustard plaster – or mustard poultice. Again, this was brought to my attention from sweet Cami over at the blog Tidbits. I think it’s mostly for those who are experiencing chest symptoms. But I did it anyway, just because. I followed the instruction from THIS VIDEO, made by Carolyn of the Homesteading Family on Youtube. I binge-watched several of their videos leading to me subscribe to their channel. 😉
Now… my Naturopathic doctor’s advice on how to take care of yourself if you get Covid.
Now that I’ve shared remedies that I “heard” about from others, I decided to go to a reliable source.
One who I trust.
Here is the advice that my naturopathic doctor gave me.
All of these products have been linked below.
Adequate Vitamin D (yup, no surprise) 10,000 iu’s per day during the pandemic.
Selenium – 200 mcg per day. The best way to get selenium is to eat a 2-3 brazil nuts every day.
Zinc – 30 mg per day.
A good multivitamin – He recommended THESE.
Probiotics – I love THESE and I have a code CAMMI20 for 20% off a first-time purchase.
Vitamin C – 2000-3000 mg per day. Our family likes THESE.
Flavanoids – 1 does per day, in the form of onions, kale, parsley, dark chocolate, citrus fruits, soybeans.
Quercetin – 1 does per day, in the form of red onions and kale.
Inflammation balancing herbs – Curcumin 1000 mg 2X per day, which is found in Turmeric.
I feel like it would be a great idea to have these stocked up at home.
You know… in case of a pandemic or something. 😉
I hope this was helpful for you and that you feel armed and ready to take care of yourself in the unfortunate event that someone in YOUR family gets Covid 19.
Health and blessings to you all!
