MOTHER’S DAY 2016

I love everything about Mother’s Day! I’m certainly not one of those moms who do not enjoy it, and maybe I should not be quite so indulgent, and maybe I milk it for all it’s worth…

…but for crying out loud,  “everyday is kid’s day!” said Rick to the 10 year old last night when he was complaining about not having “a day.”  In my opinion though, that’s how it should be because I  signed up to raise kids.  I chose this wonderful calling.

Doesn’t mean they get everything they want..

Doesn’t mean I do every little thing for them…

But I take care of their basic needs, physically, emotionally, and spiritually the best I can.

Because I am their mom and I am teaching them to grow up to be self reliant, well adjusted, responsible humans.  And when I say I, I mean we.

It’s a work in progress, that’s for sure.  Like when we got phone calls at 11:30 pm from the police asking if I was the mother of a certain 17 year old, but hey.  That 17 year old is now in South Korea on a service mission for the Church for two years, so apparently we must have done something right along the way.  🙂

But enough about them…back to Mother’s Day!  It happens to be one of two days in the year that I get to skype with my two missionaries!  I’m pretty sure I was more excited for this than Christmas!  For heaven’s sake, I have them in cardboard form in my living room!

Aren’t they handsome?  This one is looking forward to coming home in 3 months.

And this one is looking forward to the homemade granola I will send him this week.  😉

Wow, I miss them.  But I’m so thankful that they have chosen to spend two years of their young adult life spreading good in the world and teaching people about Christ.

Currently there are 74,077 other young men and women doing the exact same thing and they are a force for good I tell you!

“While this generation will be comparable in wickedness to the days of Noah, when the Lord cleansed the earth by flood, there is a major difference this time: [it is that] God has saved for the final inning some of His strongest … children, who will help bear off the kingdom triumphantly.” –Pres. Ezra Taft Benson

Seeing them off was one of the hardest things I’ve ever done as a mom, however it is equally matched by the joy and the happiness it brings me to see them doing such good things!  (You can see drop off #1 HERE and drop off #2 and a video HERE.)

Now I’m off to do the exact same things I did yesterday… clean up after breakfast, throw in some laundry, plan dinner…..Here’s to imperfect moms doing their best to change the world one repetitive day at a time!  Can I get an “Amen!”
