PREPPING THE GARDEN AND A VIDEO…
It’s that time of year!
April in northern Utah means it’s time for prepping the garden and with a global pandemic going on??
I’M READY!!!!
And with the weather warming up it sure feels good to be outside and getting my hands in the dirt!
April is planting month!
However, around here there are a few things that you can plant as early as mid-March.
We don’t usually get out that early, but some do!
Right now in our area, it’s a good time to plant any of the following:
- Cabbage
- Broccoli
- Cauliflower
- Lettuce
- Onions
- Peas
- Radishes
- Spinach
- Beets
- Carrots
- Parsnips
- Potatoes
We are only interested in peas, carrots, onions, lettuce, and spinach. Those are the only vegetables we will be planting right now.
I like to get all of my seeds locally HERE. I love that they can answer ANY questions I may have, and I usually have several!
Check your soil.
How is it looking? Does it need something organic?
In prepping the garden this year, we decided ours needed a beefy amount of compost. So we brought in a truckload and mixed it all together.
Give it a good aerating!
If you have raised beds, you can use a garden fork or something similar.
For a garden our size, using a rototiller is the best option.
Plus it mixes in the compost like a BEAST!
There is nothing better than planting in light, fluffy soil!
Just looking at these little rows makes me happy!
We got ours in the ground right in time for a cold day and some rain! PERFECT!
From now on, THIS HOE is all i will need to keep the weeds down. It’s my FAVORITE!
Happy planting everybody!
